Technology
A week ago, UK-based Tangerine Computer Systems announced the Oric-1 microcomputer. The machine has a 1-Mhz CPU and can be bought with 16 KB of RAM for 129 BP or 48 KB RAM for 169 BP. Both versions have an operating system and a BASIC interpreter, as well as a General Instrument AY-3-8910, which is a programmable sounds chip.
Japanese company Fujitsu announced yesterday in Tokyo that they have created a 64 kbit DRAM chip that is 15 percent smaller than the currently-used chips of the same size.
Apple has released a dot-matrix printer called, appropriately, the Apple Dot Matrix Printer, or DMP. It is produced by Japanese company C. Itoh and uses the parallel port of the Apple II, the Apple III, and the Lisa.
Recently, some employees of Xerox have broken free of the tech giant to form their own company knows as Electronic Arts. We'll see how long this one lasts.
Movies
Last Saturday saw the release of a number of movies. One among them is The World According to Garp, a comedy drama starring Robin Williams. The film's trailer and synopsis is too strange to describe.
Today, a new Chuck Norris movie was released, called "Forced Vengeance." It is, unsurprisingly, an action movie, with a story about revenge against a mobster syndicate in Hong Kong.
Also today was released a star-studded comedy directed by Ron Howard called "Night Shift." The film costars Henry Winkler and Michael Keaton who work as partners in a morgue, and also starring Shelley Long. The film also has appearances from Clint Howard and Richard Belzer. As a warning, this one is not for the kids.
Finally, Disney has started creating more serious content in the drama called "Tex". The coming-of-age drama surrounding the struggles that Tex and his family wrestle with has been well-received by critics.
Television
And in television news, yesterday on "Late Night" with David Letterman, an altercation became physical, as wrestler Jerry Lawler slapped Andy Kaufman hard enough to knock him out of his chair, and Kaufman responded with threats of lawsuits and throwing coffee at the wrestler.
This comes a few months following a wrestling match between the two men that ended up with Kaufman in the hospital after a pile-drive from Lawler that took place after the bell had rung. Kaufman was declared the winner of that match as Lawler was disqualified.

This is a not-quite-official announcement of the Discord server I just created. Completely free. Don't need to be a supporter on Locals. Don't even need to be a member.
It's definitely not a secret that this community hasn't been active since Matt Hartley hasn't been involved. I think there are a few reasons why (one being that I had a lot less time to devote to it than I realized), and I think that making a completely free alternative would help, and I unfortunately don't think I can do that on Locals! You have to pay if you want to post. Discord should be free (unless I did it wrong).
Feel free to come join! It's still kind of experimental at this point, and I don't know how well I'll handle content moderation, which will probably be the biggest challenge.
